Aimee joined The Oaks Specialist College in September and initially presented with high levels of anxiety linked to transition and change. During her transition visits, Aimee found it difficult to be left without trusted adults and experienced visible distress, becoming tearful while on site. In the lead‑up to starting college, further anxiety was identified around transport arrangements, particularly the proposed change from a minibus with an escort to a taxi without support. This uncertainty had a significant emotional impact on Aimee and her family, and there were concerns that she may struggle to attend college at the start of term.

Since joining college, Aimee has made remarkable progress and has grown in confidence, resilience and independence. With consistent routines, visual support and trusted relationships with staff, she has settled well into college life and now engages positively in her learning. Aimee is a kind, caring and valued member of her class who regularly offers help and support to both peers and staff. She approaches new experiences with a willingness to try, demonstrating significant personal growth from her starting point.

Aimee has shown a particular interest in cooking and is an active member of the café lunch group as part of her work‑related learning on Thursdays. She has developed employability skills such as teamwork, communication and responsibility, and was recently selected to help cater for an external group visiting the college. Working successfully within a small team, Aimee demonstrated pride in her work and an ability to rise to new challenges. Her progress highlights the positive impact of the supportive environment at The Oaks Specialist College. Aimee has a bright future ahead and, through continued access to a wide range of experiences, will be well supported to identify her strengths, interests and aspirations as she prepares for adulthood.
