Learner Stories

At The Oaks we strive to ensure our learners reach their full potential.

Aimee

Since joining college, Aimee has made remarkable progress and has grown in confidence, resilience and independence after a difficult start with her change of routine.

Cleo

Cleo was one of The Oaks’ original cohort of ten learners and left the college in July 2025. During her five years with us, she not only witnessed significant growth at the college, but also experienced her own remarkable journey of progress and increasing independence.

Kai

Kai joined The Oaks Specialist College with a clear ambition: to become a professional actor. With support from the college’s careers team, he immersed himself in a range of work related learning activities.

Alex

Alex’s life has been transformed through technology, giving him the confidence to develop his communication skills.

Charlie

Charlie secured himself a place on DPD’s fabulous transition to work programme, Inspire.

DPD worked closely with The Oaks to assist Charlie through the induction and training period and into paid employment.

Jenny & Kieran

Jenny and Kieran have both been part of the on-going partnership between the college and Tesco.

They gained experience within the college’s mini-Tesco store and were offered places on the Tesco Launch Disability Programme. As part of this programme they secured an eight-week work related learning placement at their local Tesco Superstores.

Luke

Luke took part in a supported work placement with Mitie (the facilities management company at Tunbridge Wells hospital), and has successfully converted this into a paid apprenticeship with them.
